Amaggi Regenera hosts 1st field day with partner producers and launches certification

AMAGGI held its 1st field day about regenerative agriculture with partner rural producers. The event was hosted at the Itamarati Farm, in Campo Novo do Parecis (MT), in early December 2024. The Amaggi Regenera Certification Protocol was also launched during this event.

During the event, the results from monitoring of good agricultural practices adopted at Itamarati, such as direct planting, use of biological agents and monitoring of the soil health and amount of carbon, were presented to the producers.

“This first field day was very productive. I believe we achieved our goal, which was to have this moment of exchange with partner producers and be able to present the results from the first two years of Amaggi Regenera, as well as to hear about the producers’ experiences,” said Juliana Monti, social-environmental supervisor at AMAGGI.

Marcelo Machado, Sourcing director for AMAGGI, highlighted the importance of the attendance of producers to the event and talked about the improvement regenerative agriculture brings to the crop.

“This concept of sustainable agricultural practices is also conceived for the increase of productivity. With this field day, AMAGGI is proving that what we make in our own farms is taken to our clients and suppliers of grains and fibers,” he said.

The event included visits from farmers to the unit’s research fields, lectures about the use of green manure to control nematodes, and a demonstration of soil monitoring and biodiversity. During the activities, the producers were able to clarify doubts and exchange knowledge about management techniques.

“It’s exciting to see AMAGGI’s practices, especially what it does in its farms. And now, it shares with other rural producers to multiply this in the region and help us implement these good regenerative agriculture practices. We have a way of producing, but there’s always room for improvement, in a more technical, scientific manner, and with the AMAGGI seal,” stated Samuel Parisienti, rural producer in Diamantino.

“The production of grains must be sustainable in all pillars, economically, socially and environmentally. These pillars also involve these practices we saw today: cover crop management, use of biological agents. These practices need to be part of the day to day, so we can have longevity in our business,” said Karina Stefanelo, rural producer in Campo Novo do Parecis.

Amaggi Regenera

Amaggi Regenera has the goal of promoting sustainable, low-carbon agriculture, aiming at mitigating impacts on climate, with focus on soil health, conservation of biodiversity, and on people, from the exchange of knowledge about the best agricultural practices.

Amaggi Regenera was created mainly to combine efforts for monitoring regenerative agriculture practices and their impacts, which has been done in the company since 2021, explained André Lavezo, Agricultural Planning manager at AMAGGI.

“From this, we begin assessing what we did as practices that could be considered in regenerative agriculture, aiming at soil health and improvement of the chemical, physical and biological features of the production system. We work directly in the creation of these impact indicators,” he said.

The work is conducted in partnership with Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation)

“Embrapa is present in research studies with focus on diversified cotton production systems, sometimes including soy, corn, cover crops and green manure. These ideas are in line with the regenerative agriculture program from AMAGGI, with soil and water conservation, nutrient cycling, carbon improvement,” explained Alexandre Ferreira, researcher at Embrapa.

The increase in crop productivity, with the correct use of resources available, and the business perpetuity are also goals from Amaggi Regenera.

“Good practices collaborate to increase the resilience of our production, especially at this moment, when we have recurring weather events. The increase in resilience is positive for our producers and, in turn, is good for our business as well,” said Juliana Monti, social-environmental supervisor.

Amaggi Regenera is also in line with the current market requirements, with the greater pursuit of increasingly sustainable agriculture.

“It is a question of perpetuity for agribusiness. There are requirements for the agribusiness supply chain and regenerative agriculture is part of this,” said Marcelo Machado, Sourcing director at AMAGGI.

Amaggi Regenera Certification

The Amaggi Regenera certification is a way of combining information from the field and demonstrating through protocol and third-party verification the results achieved by regenerative practices implemented, including the monitoring of a few indicators based on environmental conservation, such as soil, biodiversity and knowledge dissemination to people. The goal of the certification is to support the transition of low-carbon agricultural systems, with climate and economic resilience.
